Our Service Methodology

Watch servicing requires a methodical approach. Each service we offer follows a structured process developed through years of working with Swiss mechanical movements. We don't improvise or skip steps — the sequence of disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly exists for good reasons, and rushing any stage tends to produce problems that only emerge later.

Our work focuses on movements we have specific experience with: ETA, Sellita, and Valjoux calibres. These are the Swiss movements found in many everyday mechanical watches. We maintain calibre-specific documentation showing proper lubrication points, acceptable tolerance ranges, and common wear patterns. This allows us to service each movement according to its particular design rather than applying generic principles that may not suit.

After completing service work, we conduct multi-day regulation to ensure the watch maintains stable timing through position changes and temperature variations. A watch that seems properly regulated after one day may drift significantly when exposed to normal wearing conditions. Multiple regulation sessions help identify and address these issues before the watch is returned to you.

Hairspring correction work

Hairspring Correction

MYR 680

The hairspring — a coiled spring thinner than a human hair — is the most delicate component in a mechanical watch. When a coil touches an adjacent turn, when magnetisation causes coils to stick together, or when the stud point shifts, significant timekeeping errors result. Hairspring correction addresses these issues through careful examination and precise adjustment.

Process Steps:

  1. 1. High-magnification examination to identify irregularities
  2. 2. Magnetisation testing if coil sticking is observed
  3. 3. Gentle correction using appropriate watchmaking tools
  4. 4. Verification that coils maintain proper spacing
  5. 5. Multi-day regulation to confirm stable performance

Typical Timeline:

1-2 weeks

  • Insurance Appraisal: When you need documentation for insurance coverage or want a current market valuation

Technical Standards

Calibre-Specific Protocols

Each Swiss calibre has specific requirements for lubrication points, tolerance ranges, and wear patterns. We follow manufacturer documentation rather than generic procedures.

Quality Components

Replacement parts are sourced from reputable suppliers. Standard wear items like click springs and keyless works are replaced as part of complete services.

Multi-Day Regulation

Timing is tested over several days in multiple positions to ensure stability. Single-day regulation can miss performance variations that emerge with position changes.

Service Documentation

Each service includes written records of work performed, parts replaced, and final timing figures. This creates a service history for your watch.

Secure Storage

Watches are stored in a secured area when not actively being worked on. Each piece is tracked through our service process.

Clear Communication

If additional issues emerge during disassembly, we contact you before proceeding. Written estimates are provided before work begins.
